Double Figure Pose

This oil on canvas was a 2 week double model pose, done at the National Academy of Fine Arts in New York this April, working with Mary Beth McKenzie. Now, getting stretchers made for this 32" x 43" oil on canvas. I taped the gessoed canvas to a board to paint, and mailed it home rolled up. A fantastic process to delve 30 hours into a pose.I felt like the first half was getting shapes located and the second half was spent looking at fine nuances of shifts in color and value. What great models, with challenging natural light only, at the National Academy. We painted 3 hours each day for 2 weeks. The models took breaks and resumed the same pose. The more you looked, the more you saw.

This and several other canvases will be on display at Islander's Bank in Friday Harbor this summer.
